Chiropractors treat many conditions affecting the nervous system and musculoskeletal systems. The doctors at Clairpointe Family Chiropractic care for all kinds of bone, joint, or muscle pain. They are trained to remove any subluxations (a misalignment of the spine affecting your whole body) using spinal manipulations (chiropractic adjustments) to realign the spine and relieve pain in your joints and muscles. But what would cause your spine to become subluxated?

What Causes a Subluxation?

Your muscles and ligaments are designed to hold your vertebrae and joints in place. The discs between your joints are flexible and spongy, which allows your joints to move, but this flexibility also allows your joints to move out of alignment.

This can be caused by the following:
• Car accidents
• Slip and falls
• Muscle tightness that can pull your joints out of place
• Sleeping wrong
• Sitting improperly for extended periods of time
• Repetitive motions
• Illness or stress
• Genetic deformities (example: scoliosis)
• Sports and physical activity
• The birthing process

Effects of Subluxations

Besides the pain and discomfort a subluxation can cause, it is also blocking communication from your nerve endings to your brain. For example, this can cause issues with your digestion, cause migraines and headaches, sinus trouble, trouble staying focused, and much more. Below is a nerve chart we give all our patients to understand when there is interference within the nervous system and which areas of the body are affected by it.

Over time, subluxations will negatively affect the discs, bones, and surrounding tissues. If left untreated for too long, this damage becomes irreversible. It’s best to have a chiropractor examine your spine, even if you aren’t experiencing pain, to make sure you are in proper alignment.
