Clairpointe's Story
Clairpointe Family Chiropractic has a long history rooted in Grosse Pointe and the surrounding communities.
When Dr. Gary Shoemaker was a child, his family regularly visited Dr. Edmonds, a local chiropractor on the corner of Yorkshire and Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe Park. At that time, chiropractic care wasn’t common. Dr. Edmonds spent his days teaching science at Lakeview High School and, in the evenings, welcomed patients into the small chiropractic office he built in his garage.
Young Gary witnessed firsthand the power of chiropractic healing when Dr. Edmonds helped his uncle, Harold—a mechanic once unable to work because of crippling back pain—regain his health and strength. With consistent chiropractic adjustments, Harold returned to full-time work as an ironworker. This life-changing experience inspired Dr. Shoemaker to dedicate his own career to chiropractic care and family wellness.
In 1981, Dr. Shoemaker graduated from the National College of Chiropractic with both a Doctorate in Chiropractic and a Bachelor of Science degree. He spent the next six years training under Dr. Dybowski in Utica, Michigan, where he gained invaluable experience in patient care and natural health management.
On December 21, 1987, Dr. Shoemaker founded Clairpointe Family Chiropractic by purchasing the historic Thompson Clinic, which had been serving the Detroit and Grosse Pointe communities since 1951.
As the practice grew, so did the vision. In 2014, Clairpointe Family Chiropractic moved to its current location at Mack Avenue and Kerby in Grosse Pointe Farms. Here, our team continues to help families discover the benefits of a chiropractic lifestyle, including:
